If you are looking for a fun adventure with the kids, then the Molalla Train Park is the perfect day trip. Molalla is home to a 4-acre park with seven miniature trains, allowing you and the family to hop aboard and ride the rails!

This was our second trip with my two children, ages 7 and 10, and we were looking forward to riding the trains and exploring the park again.

When we arrived, we headed straight to the train station to enjoy our first 10-minute ride around the park. The ride loops multiple times around the park and includes views of ponds, waterfalls and town scenes. The 1.5 model scale trains are powered by electricity, gas or coal fire, and pull multiple cars with seating.

During your visit you can take as many train rides as you want. Each train is unique so on our second ride we made sure to ride a different train by letting others go ahead of us in line.

If you need a break during your visit, there is still plenty to explore. The train park has a snack bar and gift shop near the train station. The Snack Stand offers hot food, drinks and snow cones. The gift shop has souvenirs for your train enthusiast including engineer hats and train whistles. At the picnic area near the entrance, you can enjoy the treats that you purchased or bring a picnic. There’s even  a model train that loops the picnic area that you can watch while taking a break at one of the picnic tables.

During our visit we felt safe with their COVID protocols. They provided guidance throughout the park to maintain social distancing and masks are required.

The Molalla Train Park brings out the kid in everyone —  all ages will enjoy this outing.

Sounds like a great time? Here is what you need to know:
Hours: The train park is open to the public on Sundays from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm with the train rides and Snack Stand open at 11:30 am.
Season: Their season runs from the first Sunday in May through the last Sunday in October. In addition, they hold special events throughout the season.
Admission: Visiting the park and the train rides are free but donations are requested. The donations keep the trains running and maintain the park.
