Are you feeling the summer vibe?
Thanks to the Oregon Community Foundation, Vibe is offering full-day art and music camps in SE Portland. Full scholarships are available for youth in the Lents and Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood who qualify. Camps are held on sites with outdoor and indoor spaces and will implement COVID protocols to ensure health and safety. Check out their summer camp offerings below!
Mixed Media for Grades 1-5
June 21-25, 9 am-3 pm, with extended day options
In this process-based, hands-on mixed media art camp, students will play with combining painting, drawing, and collage. Using a wide variety of media, students will experiment with creating texture, form, and composition. Held at the Portland Moose Lodge #291. Camps are $325/week, with drop-in options.
Summer Art Explore! for Grades 1-5
June 28-July 2, 9 am-3 pm, with extended day options
Artists ages 6-12 will gain inspiration from the artistry of the world around us – closely looking at all the things we can see: plants, flowers, branches, bugs, animals and their amazing design. Campers will work with found natural items, and work in a mix of 2D and 3D mediums. Held at the Portland Moose Lodge #291. Camps are $325/week, with drop-in options.
Vibe Summer Musical Theater Camp for Grades 1-6
July 5-9 and July 12-16, 9 am-3 pm, with extended day options
If you love to sing, dance, and/or act then this is the summer camp for you. Students will receive daily instruction, play theatre games, learn improv skills, and make new friends! All levels welcome! Camp July 5-9 will be held at Green Tulip Peace and Nature School in SE Portland; camp during July 12-16 will be held at the Portland Moose Lodge #291.
Ocean Blue and Environmental Summer Art Camp for Grades 1-6
July 12-16, 9am-3pm, with extended day options
Vibe is partnering with Ocean Blue Project to create this one of a kind summer camp bringing together art and environment stewardship. Ocean Blue empowers students—and communities—to become stewards of their beaches, streams, rivers, and ocean. Held at Green Tulip Peace and Nature School in SE Portland. Tuition is $325, with drop-in options.
Illustration and Drawing Summer Camp for Grades 3-8
July 19-23 and July 26-30, 9 am-3 pm, with extended day options
This awesome summer camp will be all about drawing and illustration! It is called “Perspectives” because campers will be learning different ways to approach drawing and illustration by two of Vibe’s awesome teaching artists who take similar mediums and end up with very different results! The July 19-23 camp will be held at Green Tulip Peace and Nature School in SE Portland; the July 26-30 camp will be held at the Portland Moose Lodge. Tuition is $325, with drop-in options.
Vibe Summer Academy for SE Portland Band Kids
August 9-13 and August 16-20, 9 am-3 pm, with extended day options
This small, COVID-safe band camp is for students grades entering grades 7-9 (or one full year of playing experience) next year who would like some extra instruction to get ready for next year! Open to all band students, music will be provided. Full scholarships available for students living in the Lents and surrounding Southeast areas. Held at the Portland Moose Lodge #291. Tuition is $225/week.
Instrument-specific Camps
Normally Vibe offers a full-day week-long band camp, but are holding off until 2022. However, some of their professional teaching artists are offering instrument specific camps, held at the Portland Moose Lodge #291 in SE Portland:
July 26-30, 9am- 2pm, East Winds Band Camp // Flute Bootcamp! for grades 6-10.
August 2-6, 9am-2pm, East Winds Band Camp // Clarinet Bootcamp! for grades 6-10.
Camps are ideal for students having had at least one school year of instruction. Get ready for in-person band in the fall, having fun and playing with new friends, addressing fundamentals of playing, and growing musically. Tuition for each music camp is $180, with drop-in options.
