Halloween Trains and Where to Find Them

Whether your child wants to trick-or-treat at a train park or ride a haunted train with the Headless Horseman, there’s a Halloween rail experience for every age. Most are only a short drive from Portland, Oregon, and costumes are encouraged!

Trick or Treat Extravaganza at Molalla Train Park

The popular train park will be decorated for Halloween all October, but children can trick-or-treat the last Sunday in October, as they explore Molalla Train Park. It’s free to visit, and train rides are free, too! Keep in mind that the park is only open on Sundays and they are volunteer-run. Donations are very much appreciated.

Headless Horseman Train Ride in Yacolt

Book your tickets early to this Headless Horseman train ride, as it’s very popular! Ride the train and catch a glimpse of the Headless Horseman, then take a family photo with him afterwards. Families say this event is not too scary for young kids, but you know your children best. This train runs the last weekend in October.
Cost: Typically $12-$18, tickets are not available yet as of this writing.

Halloween Train at Mount Hood Railroad

The Phantom of the Rails Halloween Train at Mount Hood Railroad is recommended for ages 13+, but if your tween doesn’t mind zombies dancing to Thriller, or an Agatha Christie -style mystery, they’ll probably be fine. My daughter was ten when she rode the Halloween train and loved every second!
Cost: This is the most expensive experience on our list. Prices range from $79 to $99 per person.
