Going to plays and musicals at Northwest Children’s Theater (NWCT) has been a treasured activity for our family for the past decade. This weekend, we had the opportunity to try something new there — see a movie!
In honor of the building’s original history as a movie theater, NWCT has created a space to watch family friendly second run movies on the weekends. We saw Shrek, but other familiar offerings include films like Encanto and Frozen. Some showings are even designated sing-alongs, which would add even more fun!
The theater has comfortable chairs, but there is also the unique offering of bean bags in front of the traditional seating. This was a huge hit with the kids! The screen is large, and the picture and sound quality were both great. We did notice and appreciate that the volume was loud enough to hear clearly, but wasn’t as overwhelmingly loud as some movie theaters. The space somehow manages to feel both relaxed and intimate, creating a very homey experience.
Concessions like pizza, popcorn, candy and drinks are available. The evening we went, they even had Shrek themed popcorn with green apple glaze!
We all had a wonderful time. My son was asking to go back before we were even out of the building! NWCT is doing a great job choosing well loved movies that you can feel confident your whole family will enjoy. And there is something special about seeing an old favorite back on the big screen. We definitely encourage you to go!
Parking is easy with both street parking and an attached garage.
