Francesca Cronan - From Literature Lover to Renowned Writing Professional

Francesca Cronan is an experienced writer and editor who has always been passionate about reading and writing. Her love for literature blossomed at Occidental College, where she majored in English and Comparative Literary Studies, graduating with honors.
Throughout her academic and professional career, Francesca's keen editing skills were highly sought after by her peers. With over two decades of experience, she has honed her craft in writing and editing grant proposals, website content, marketing materials, articles, blogs, resumes, screenplays, and business plans. In addition to running her own professional writing and editing business, Francesca is an avid cook and baker, delighting friends and family with her culinary creations.
How did you realize that writing was your true calling?
"While attending Occidental College in Los Angeles almost two decades ago, I had a professor who recognized my ability to craft compelling stories. He pushed me to refine and clarify my writing, which made me see writing as a rewarding career. Before his classes, I hadn't considered writing professionally, but his guidance changed everything."
What drives you in your writing and editing business?
"I see each project as an opportunity to make a difference. Whether it's helping a business articulate its brand story or assisting an individual in finding their voice, I'm driven by the desire to create meaningful connections through words. Understanding my client's needs and delivering high-quality work within a reasonable timeframe is paramount to me."
Can you share a defining moment in your career?
"Starting my own business was a pivotal moment. It’s incredibly satisfying to work with a variety of clients and adapt to different situations. While I've had offers to work in-house, I'm reluctant to leave behind what I've built so far. My adaptability is my strength, allowing me to mold my voice, style, and tone to suit each narrative perfectly."
How do you balance your professional life with motherhood and your other interests?
"I have two children and remain deeply engaged in charitable initiatives, particularly conservation efforts. Inspired by a trip to Borneo with my husband, led by the Orangutan Foundation International, I've dedicated myself to preserving rainforests and protecting endangered species. Cooking is another passion of mine. I see it as another form of storytelling, where each ingredient weaves a tapestry of flavors. One of my proudest culinary achievements is transforming a vegetarian bolognese recipe into a delectable porcini lasagna that delights both vegetarians and meat lovers."
What does your daily routine look like, and how does it contribute to your success?
"I love the flexibility of working from my home office. My day starts with taking the kids to school, followed by a brief workout, and then diving into my projects. I usually have lunch with my husband, who also works from home, and the afternoon is reserved for family time and dinner together. This routine allows me to balance quality family time with my career and personal interests."
What is your strategy for maintaining high standards in your work?
"My strategy is to provide quality. In an industry where it’s tempting to cut corners, I stand apart by maintaining high standards. My clients quickly realize the value of investing in high-quality writing. I also prioritize building meaningful relationships with collaborators and clients through in-person or video calls whenever possible."
How do you view the rise of AI in the writing industry?
"While many writers are concerned about AI, I see it as an opportunity for real writers to shine. Companies often ask me to add a human touch to AI-generated content that sounds too robotic. Even in an AI-heavy world, there's always a need for human-generated content that connects with audiences on a deeper level."
What advice do you have for aspiring writers and editors?
"Perseverance, adaptability, and staying true to your passions are crucial. Success is about making a meaningful impact on someone's life, whether through writing, culinary creations, or conservation efforts. Sticking to a routine and maintaining a strong work ethic are also important. I've always had a strong work ethic, which has been instrumental in my professional endeavors."
The journey of Francesca Cronan from a reluctant writer to an industry leader is a testament to her dedication, adaptability, and passion for the written word.
