With children and all the detritus that goes along with them (diaper bags! snacks! backpacks! snacks! water bottles! snacks!) it can sometimes feel like if you’re going to go anywhere, it’s going to be by car.
But Portland is an incredibly carless-friendly city. From multiple public transportation options, to clearly marked bike lanes, to pedestrian only paths – you can feel safe and virtuous while leaving the car at home. (And think of the shoulder workout you’ll get in while transporting all that kid gear in your backpack!)
If you’re looking for some ideas for carless adventures, we’ve got you covered.
Our friends at Community Cycling Center gave us three bike routes that will appeal to all age ranges and abilities here, from a flat and easy 4 miler to a tricky 14 miler.
And Metro is rounding out those ideas with even more ways to see the city – from a Ramona Quimby Walking tour, to a nighttime Tilikum Bridge crossing, and everything in between. All while leaving your car at home.
Happy adventuring!
