From our friends at The Circus Project:
The Circus Project is launching the second season of outdoor entertainment at the Circus Domes. Opened for its inaugural season in June 2021, the Circus Domes are an open-air aerial studio and performance venue located at Zidell Yards.
The space hosts circus classes and summer camps during the day, and converts to a performance venue in the evening. Designed by local engineer Trevor Blackann and Guildworks, the one-of-a-kind structure is based on two geodesic domes, and connected by a stage for performance.
Amaya Alvarado, Program Director at The Circus Project says, “The energy at the Domes is unparalleled – it’s so special to be in the fresh air, close to the beauty of Portland. We have some great classes and events lined up this summer – I hope everyone will get a chance to check it out.”
The inaugural season included a vibrant variety of events, such as performances by Seattle-based circus company Acrobatic Conundrum, and Circo Tropical, an all-ages circus festival celebrating Central and South American diversity in Portland.
For parents and families looking to keep kids active and connected, the Circus Domes offer a full season of circus summer camps. One summer camp parent says, “The Circus Project camps offered such a supportive experience for my child this past summer – I feel very grateful!” Summer camps include theater, dance, tumbling, and of course the circus classics – aerial fabric, trapeze and juggling.
This summer season will kick off on June 17th with Living Room Circus, a performance showcase focused around the themes of risk and innovation. Artists of all disciplines present innovative pieces and works-in-progress, giving the audience a unique look into the creative process. The audience is invited to give written feedback to the performers, who also receive feedback from a panel of directors and creatives.
This will be the 9th edition of Living Room Circus, presented for the first time at the Circus Domes.
Tickets are sliding scale ($5 – $25 suggested). For more details or to reserve your tickets, go to livingroomcircus.bpt.me
