IMA Academy

Fun dance classes for kids ages 2-10
IMA Academy weaves together dance, bilingual education, science, the arts, and imagination to inspire a lifelong love of dance in the next generation. Children ages 2 through 10 can enjoy a variety of dance classes offered throughout the year. Our programs are curated for five different age groups, so every lesson offers the appropriate level of engagement for your little ones. Classes are for families of all abilities and backgrounds because dance is for all bodies. BALLET CLASSES – offered during the school year
  • Toddler Ballet(ages 2-3.5): Young dancers have fun using their imaginations and creativity in this parent and me class to help develop basic motor skills through ballet technique at age appropriate instruction.
  • Preschooler Ballet(ages 3.5-5): Ballet technique is increased as young dancers are observed by parents but dance independently. Fun and imagination are still key tools to help guide the dancers as they improve their balance, strength, and flexibility.
  • Pre Ballet 1  (ages 5-6): In this fun and creative class, we explore foundational ballet concepts, including musicality, alignment, and ballet class structure.
  • Pre Ballet 2  (ages 7-8): This class builds on the fundamentals from previous levels and with greater expectations of focus and discipline from the dancers. Fun and imagination are still important elements for engagement and increased learning.
  • Ballet Level 1  (ages 8-10): This class introduces dancers to the foundations of classical ballet training by emphasizing class etiquette and structure with barre and center work, French vocabulary, proper alignment, and artistry.
OTHER CLASSES – offered seasonally
  • Beginning Hula  (ages 6-8): This class is a wonderful intro to what Hula entails. It incorporates chanting, technique, choreography, costume making, Hawaiian vocabulary, cultural exploration and story time.
  • Samba Reggae  (ages 2-5): This fun class takes children through a handful of Samba Reggae dance moves with imaginative stories while introducing basic Portuguese words and crafting.
  • Bollywood  (ages 3.5-8): Young dancers do basic yoga and Bharatnatyam warmups, learn simple hand mudras, and practice a fun choreography to a famous Bollywood movie.
  • Line Dancing  (ages 2-5): Line Dancing offers a fun way to dance as a group with fun moves set to silly imaginative play. Familiar songs are used and parent participation is highly encouraged to get the whole room moving and laughing.
  • Science & Dance  (ages 6-8): This specialized class incorporates basic science concepts of wind, light, air, and plants with dances from around the world to show that science and movement can be two ways to look at the same concepts.
