Tryon Forest Adventures - an active full day outdoor summer experience for ages 7 to 12. Taking place Monday-Thursday from 9 am to 4 pm at Tryon Creek State Natural Area in SW Portland.

Youth explore life in the forest by working together to examine the ecology and people that create an interdependent urban park. They interact on a social level to enhance friendship building, teamwork and learning amongst diverse people in the community. Each day incorporates classic Tryon Creek activities like slug races, gnome homes, fort and stream building, hiking, games, storytelling and nature art.

Tryon Forest Adventures is a safe opportunity that will allow your child time outdoors to grow, learn and have fun.

Weekly Themes Include:

Fun with Flora: Youth examine plants and their importance to ecology and our lives.  Activities include plant identification and uses, meadow ecology and storytelling.

Living with Wildlife: Youth explore the forest as a home to a variety of birds, mammals and fish species. Activities include nature observation skills, scavenger hunts and slug races.

Water is Life: Youth study the importance of clean water to the land, people and animals. Activities include water science, stream building and aquatic bugs.

Forest Community: Youth identify connections and the role of reciprocity between people, the park and its inhabitants. Activities include ecology games, Park Ranger talks and park safety.
