First Day Hike and Free Parking at Parks Across Oregon & Washington

On New Year’s Day, both Oregon and Washington state parks offer free parking and guided hikes:
Oregon On January 1, Oregon state parks offer free parking and guided hikes at participating parks. Some parks host two hikes, and some require advance registration. Some parks include Silver Falls, Smith Rock, Sitka Sedge, and Elijah Bristow. 
Washington On January 1, Washington state parks offer free parking and ranger-led hikes, bike rides, snowshoe excursions, and more at over 40 parks. Some hikes include: 
  • A bike ride at Fort Ebey State Park 
  • A scavenger hunt at Deception Pass State Park 
  • A paddle at Ike Kinswa State Park 
  • A snowshoe hike at Lake Wenatchee State Park 
  • A walk along Lake Sammamish State Park’s boardwalk 
  • A trail ride through Bridle Trails State Park
