On October 4th, the Lake Grove Concert Series opens its 12th season with a pipe organ celebration! It has been 50 years since the pipe organ was first installed and dedicated in Lake Grove’s Sanctuary, and we will mark this milestone with a festive concert featuring organist, Jeff Wood. Jeff will take the audience back to the 1976 dedication recital by performing several pieces from that first program, including Bach’s famous Toccata and Fugue in D Minor and an unpublished work by the original recitalist, Lester Groom.
The program will also feature festive songs fit for a celebration, including Jubilate by Fela Sowande and Fiesta by Emma Lou Diemer. Come early or stay after the performance for a behind the scenes look at the organ pipes and a chance to see the console up close.
There will also be a reception where you can greet your fellow concert-goers and reminisce about 50 years of pipe organ music at Lake Grove. As with all Lake Grove Concert Series performances, the program is about an hour long, free, and all are welcome. Come for the music, stay for the community.
