About the Lecture:
Southern Resident orcas (also known as killer whales) are highly social and intelligent, uniquely feed exclusively on fish, primarily salmon, and live in tight-knit family pods, passing knowledge down through generations. Due to pollution, noise and vessel disturbance, loss of prey, and reproductive issues, these orcas are struggling to survive – their numbers having dwindled to only 74 individuals. Join Howard Takata, ODFW’s Orca Conservation Coordinator, to learn what we can do in Oregon to protect orcas.
