Ivybrook Academy is Coming to Town

Ivybrook Academy is opening its first location in Oregon, and families in the Tigard–Tualatin area are the first to get to experience why Ivybrook is considered the “Harvard of all preschools.”

Ivybrook Academy’s Curriculum

What makes this half-day preschool so unique is its world-class curriculum. Ivybrook Academy blends Montessori and Reggio Emilia philosophies, taking the best of both worlds. Classrooms are intentionally prepared to promote independence and hands-on discovery (a hallmark of Montessori), while teachers observe, listen, and design projects that grow from children’s interests (inspired by Reggio Emilia). Ivybrook’s approach creates an environment where children develop academic readiness, creativity, and the social-emotional skills that help them thrive in school and life.

In addition, Ivybrook’s curriculum mixes early literacy and math readiness with STEAM experiences, outdoor gross motor play, and a discovery program that teaches creative expression, music, movement, Spanish, and library arts.

Individualized Learning

Ivybrook embraces a transformative approach to early childhood education, guided by the belief that every child is uniquely capable and deserving of a personalized learning experience.

The Theory of Multiple Intelligences is an approach based on the idea that intelligence comes in many different forms. Ivybrook Academy has embraced this model, believing that each child’s mind is different and that every student will learn, perform, remember, and comprehend in their own way.

By adapting the curriculum and leveraging individualized groups, Ivybrook meets every child where they are.

Half-day Approach

Another unique feature of Ivybrook Academy is its half-day offering, designed to deliver focused, high-quality early learning. A half-day schedule helps young children stay engaged and well-rested, allowing for concentrated, developmentally appropriate lessons that build literacy, math readiness, and social-emotional skills.

Ivybrook parents across the country have benefited from the half-day program through easier morning routines (for families who choose afternoon sessions), more time for parent-child activities, and often lower tuition than full-day care. For many families, a half-day program is an ideal bridge between home and kindergarten, giving children the social, cognitive, and self-regulation foundations they need without overwhelming their day.

The “Third Teacher”

Since 2007, parents have experienced the “Ivybrook magic” in the classroom—a warm, welcoming environment with calming neutral tones, soft lighting, and natural materials that invite exploration and curiosity. As part of the Reggio Emilia philosophy, the environment is treated as the “third teacher,” and classrooms are carefully curated to foster a creative, focused learning atmosphere.

Inspiring Lifelong Learners

Ivybrook has helped children enter kindergarten with confidence, curiosity, and strong social skills. Families report that Ivybrook students grow in independence, resilience, and a genuine love of learning—outcomes that speak to the success of blending Montessori’s hands-on learning with Reggio Emilia’s collaborative, project-based approach.

For Tigard–Tualatin families evaluating early-education options, Ivybrook Academy presents a balanced, nurturing program that prioritizes individualized attention, social-emotional growth, and hands-on learning.
