Cedarwood Waldorf School:
Nurturing Creativity, Resilience & Community
Nestled in Portland’s Lair Hill neighborhood, Cedarwood Waldorf School offers a Pre-K through 8th-grade education that nurtures the whole child—head, heart, and hands. Since 1997, Cedarwood has been a vibrant learning community where families come together to grow, connect, and celebrate the journey of childhood.
Rooted in Waldorf education, Cedarwood provides a nurturing, developmentally aligned curriculum that supports children from early childhood through eighth grade. In the early childhood program, learning unfolds through play, storytelling, and hands-on activities, fostering imagination, social-emotional growth, and a deep connection to nature. Daily experiences like baking, gardening, painting, and free play cultivate creativity, independence, and resilience in a warm, home-like environment.
As children grow, our curriculum weaves academics, arts, and movement to foster imaginative thinking, practical skills, and emotional resilience. Students are challenged and supported at every stage through a holistic approach to learning:
- Academics: A rich, developmentally appropriate program that fosters a love of learning. Subjects are introduced in ways that engage students deeply and build critical thinking skills.
- Arts: Creativity is woven into daily learning through drawing, painting, music, drama, and handwork, enhancing both academic understanding and emotional growth.
- Movement: Physical activity is essential to learning. Through artistic movement, dance, outdoor play, and physical education, students develop coordination, confidence, and a strong mind-body connection.
At Cedarwood, education extends beyond the classroom. Our strong, welcoming community invites parents to be active participants—through festivals, events, and shared traditions. We embrace inclusivity and diversity, enriching our students’ experiences and perspectives.
Cedarwood graduates leave with confidence, creativity, and a deep sense of purpose, equipped with the skills to think critically, collaborate meaningfully, and adapt to an ever-changing world. Through a rich, hands-on education that nurtures intellectual curiosity, emotional resilience, and a strong moral compass, they develop the ability to approach challenges with creativity and determination. With a deep appreciation for learning, a connection to nature, and a commitment to community, Cedarwood students step into the future with curiosity, compassion, and the confidence to make a difference.
