The Urban League of Portland is excited to announce our Youth Ambassadors for our Tobacco Prevention & Education program and encourage you to apply! Our mission is to create Youth Ambassadors that will be active participants in our Tobacco Prevention & Education program as well as positive role models within our community. Urban League will provide 9 weeks of middle and high school leadership and youth development focused on tobacco avoidance and cessation. We are looking for Black/African-American youth, ages 11-14 years old that attend these schools: Harriet Tubman Middle School, Faubion Middle School, Da Vinci Arts Middle School, Ockley Green Middle School, Roseway Heights Middle School.
As a Youth Ambassador you will commit to the following:
- Engage in our Summer Youth Leadership Academy to help educate youth and discuss tobacco usage and aid our goal of creating a better community with tobacco cessation.
- Ambassadors will be required to commit to a yearlong program as well as activities throughout the year.
Each ambassador will receive a stipend on a quarterly basis and access to additional program resources:
- Gym memberships
- Access to funding for extracurricular programs (arts, sports, science, leadership development, etc.)
- Food vouchers
- And much more!
We will have a rolling application acceptance period that ends April 10, at 8:00 am. The 1st round of applicants will be reviewed on Monday, April 3, at 8:30 a.m., and families will be notified by Monday, April 3, by 1:00 p.m., with the expectation both a parent/guardian and child/ren will attend the first virtual introduction meeting for the program on April 7, from 6:00-7:00 p.m., and the youth will attend the first event at the Salem Capitol all day on April 10.
