From our friends at Journey to Adventure Art Camp @ The Hangout PDX:

Calling All Grades 3-5 Adventurers and Artists

Are you super into art but also LOVE hiking, exploring, and being outside?

Join The Hangout team this summer for their Adventure Art Camp, a field trip-style summer camp that takes kids out of the studio and introduces them to the amazing art that lives in our own backyard! They will hike, jump, explore, and discover while drawing inspiration from our adventures in our handmade sketchbooks via graphite, charcoal, pastel, and watercolor mediums!

With a new theme every week, campers can look forward to a diverse and curated artmaking experience that blends themes of science, engineering, history, and community with their summer at The Hangout PDX. And of course, there will be a field day each week to give our campers the opportunity to play sports, engage in healthy competition, and gain important skills in problem-solving and collaboration with their peers.

Some of the places we visit:

  • Forest Park
  • Mount Tabor
  • OMSI
  • Portland Art Museum
  • The Oregon Historical Society
  • Sauvie Island
  • Bonneville Dam
  • The Oregon Zoo
    & more!

This camp focuses on giving kids the autonomy to choose what direction to go, what exhibit to explore, and what art to make. Campers at the Adventure Art Camp will practice skills in decision-making, confidence-building, and communication with new friends in their age range. This is the perfect camp for those kiddos who both love to make art as well as be active and outside.

The Hangout keeps their camper-to-counselor ratio low at 6:1 to ensure your child has a personalized summer camp experience and to keep everyone safe. All staff are background-checked and CPR certified. Campers will be outside in all weather and on their feet for long periods of time. This camp requires a lot of walking and good listening skills. In the event of extreme weather, a contingency plan is in place to keep campers and staff safe.
