With a grant from the Oregon Health Authority, the Riverview Center for Growth in Springfield now offers free online classes on collaborative problem solving for parents and caregivers throughout Oregon.
How collaborative problem solving works
Collaborative problem solving is an evidence-based method that promotes the understanding that challenging kids lack the skills — not the will — to behave. Essentially, kids do well if they can, and if they can’t, they need help building skills related to problem solving, flexibility and frustration tolerance.
What the parenting classes cover
The classes cover topics such as new ways of understanding behaviors, collaboratively brainstorming solutions, building positive communication, and strengthening caregiver-youth relationships.

The 6-week online classes are held monthly, and you can sign up for a free collaborative problem solving class online.
