Early childhood is a remarkable time in human development, in which children’s brains, bodies, and abilities are growing more rapidly than at any other time. It is also a time when our littlest humans are forming their most significant life-long relationships. They are learning the sense of love and attachment that comes with being in family and community, and forming the neural pathways that will serve them for a lifetime of thought, learning, communication, and belonging.

Finding ways to connect with others and celebrate what is good in our lives is essential to helping our children and our families thrive during these challenging times. There’s nothing quite like music-making to build the connections we need now more than ever! Music gives us a way to express our emotions and naturally relieves stress. It makes us feel human. It supports children’s learning and growth. Plus, it’s fun for the whole family!

Think you need to be a professional or have special talent to engage your family in music-making? Think again! We’re all born ready to make music! Singing, dancing, and playing musically with our children helps them discover the music that is already inside of them, and it can help you rediscover your own inner music-maker, too!  You already have the tools you need to be a fantastic music teacher for your child, and you may not even realize all that you have right at your fingertips to make your home a top-notch musical classroom.

A little bit of music-making every day goes a long way! A rich musical environment during early childhood inspires the continuous playful experimentation that leads to musical discovery and understanding. And because a child’s most beloved grown-ups are also their most important teachers, parents and caregivers are essential to a child’s musical learning and growth. Engaging your young child musically in a way that sparks delight and curiosity inspires all kinds of learning!

It’s never too early to start singing, dancing, and playing musically with your little one! Music Together Online is a package of online music experiences and resources that create a comprehensive music learning program. With our interactive online music classes, you’ll have access to the same high-quality early childhood music and movement curriculum loved by millions of families and teachers around the world—from the convenience of your home!

Each week, during a live Zoom class or a pre-recorded on-demand class, your teacher will lead activities for you and your family to sing, play, and jam along to. You’ll explore all sorts of silly ways to play musically with your little one. Your teacher will show you how to make everyday items like dish towels, pots, stuffies—even laundry baskets!—into musical props! You’ll be having such a great time, you may not even realize you’re also giving your child access to the basic music skills they need for a lifetime of successful music making, during the time when their brains and bodies are most receptive to learning.

Each session, families receive a new song collection, and an illustrated songbook to accompany the recordings. Recreate activities from class or create your own music and movement ideas as you listen at home or on the go.

With Music Together of Portland, there’s something for everyone this winter! Sing, dance, and play at home, and discover the joy and magic of family music!
