Watch a 75-foot Douglas fir get plugged in from the comfort of your living room at the annual downtown Portland tree lighting ceremony. Yes, it’s virtual again this year. But Pioneer Courthouse Square will be bringing back several of their other in-person outdoor holiday events. This month — Saturday November 27 — shop small at the Portland Bazaar at the Square, which will feature plenty of locally made goods and gifts. (Pro tip: Check our next issue for December events at The Square!) Downtown Vancouver will also skip the in-person tree lighting ceremony this year, but encourages folks to social distance as they come visit the tree in person and support local shops throughout the season. The Vancouver Farmers Market near Esther Short Park plans to bring back the Fall Market every Saturday, November 6 to December 16. Up to 100 local vendors will be selling gifts for the holidays alongside farmers and food purveyors.

Heading to Pioneer Courthouse Square for Portland Bazaar or one of the many holiday events coming in December like Tuba Christmas? Make getting a special treat part of your trip. About five blocks away, hit 1927 S’mores Company for insanely rich s’mores featuring uniquely flavored marshmallows. (Looking at you pumpkin-spice and whiskey-salted-caramel mallow!) Don’t miss their gourmet hot cocoas either. Or those skipping gluten can indulge at the nearby Petunia’s Pies and Pastries, which sells vegan and gluten-free pecan sticky buns, lemon-blackberry cupcakes, peanut butter bars and more.
